Holiday Madness
November 21st, 2007I hear so many people
Complaining
This time of year
Holidays are coming so fast
Gifts must be purchased
Food must be bought and prepared
Travel plans must be made
It's stressful
It's exhausting
We dread this
Fast-paced
Not a moment to rest
Time of year
We wish we could stop time
How else will we able to get it all done
And keep our sanity intact?
So I stopped the world from rotating
And I took a long look
At the faces of the rushing people
Strained and unhappy
I wondered if it was worth it
All the days of stress and pain
For a day or two of bliss
And I looked at the trees
Resting in the snow
They're naked now
And they don't care
This is their break
From flashy leaf displays
Now, they can just be themselves
And so many animals are sleeping
They aren't rushing around madly
They know this is the time of year
To slumber and rest
Even the earth is at rest
Under a blanket of snow
No roots pushing sprouts out
No animals burrowing new tunnels through
The earth is at peace
It knows that all those things will come later
It doesn't worry
The nature's seasons guide it.
The humans say "Peace on Earth"
But they fill their days
With anything but peace
They are out of rhythm with the seasons
They are out of step with the earth
They have forgotten
They are fighting their own nature
And that is why they are
Complaining

Children's Rhyme #3: Kitty Cat
November 16th, 2007Kitty cat
White and black
Walking by the
Railroad track
If a train
Should ever come
Kitty, Kitty
Run, run, run
Meow so loud
A train “Woo Woo”
So I will know
One’s coming through
And if a train
Should never come
Kitty, Kitty
Run, run home
I’ll shout so loud
A train “Woo Woo”
And we’ll pretend
One’s coming through
I’ll be the engine
And you can play
Kitty, Kitty
The caboose today
Kitty cat
White and black
Chugging down the
Railroad track
Children's Rhyme #2: Hoot Hoot Owl
November 15th, 2007Hoot Hoot Owl, sitting in a tree
Where, oh where, can the full moon be?
The moon is playing hide and seek
Close your eyes, and do not peek
Count to ten, then you can look
For the hiding place the full moon took
1 – 2 – 3, 4, 5
Where, oh where, Moon, did you hide?
6 – 7 – 8, 9, 10
Ready or not! The game begins!
Hoot Hoot Owl, I can’t see
Where that silly moon might be!
Could it be hiding in my tree?
Could it be hiding in my beak?
Is it now beneath my wing?
So many places for hiding!
Hoot Hoot Owl, the moon is wide!
Those places are too small to hide!
What’s the light behind that cloud?
Is there something coming out?
Does the wind play on your side
And show a bigger place to hide?
Hoot Hoot Owl, you’re so wise!
I see that moon up in the sky!
The wind blew all the clouds away
Revealing the moon’s hiding place
Now, it’s my turn. Close your eyes,
Moon, while I go, run, and hide!
