Most people who arrive
At two paths in the road
Would choose one
And have some fun
Seeing where it might go

I too would choose
But then get confused
And return back to the fork

After choosing left
I'd rethink my steps
Going back would be my work

I might choose right
And hike all night
To change my mind at dawn

I'd get to know
That fork in the road
I'm afraid of being wrong

And so I'd live within the woods
Treading a deep gouge
Back and forth
Would be my course
I never would get out

Some might choose right
And feel regret
They didn't choose the left

And some might wonder
If they'd picked right
Would life be any better

But then they'd sigh
And think about the wonders that they'd seen
Along their journey left or right
While I stayed in-between

And they'd arrive at a new divide
More paths for them to choose
To continue their quest
They'd decide the best
With everything they knew

Their journey would continue
To mountains or to seas
And they'd learn from their travels
From everything they'd see

Those who hike are living life
Working through their troubles
Enjoying challenges and triumphs
Over the inevitable struggles

Crossing wide gorges
To swim in the seas
Reaching great heights
Climbing up from valleys

While I pace back and forth
Fearing bumps in the road
From choosing the wrong course
So, this dark forest is all I'll know
