Emotions
Within me
Whirling, swirling
As carbonated soda
In a glass

Effervescent
Bubbles bursting to the surface
Wanting to be free
To let the world see
Let the world know

Ice cubes
Slipping, sliding
Past one another
Bumping, clinging
Touching only brief moments
Then whirled away and apart
Once again
Drifting

All we can do is wait
And hope to melt
To be just one
Wet puddle
Which was once
Two cold
And too cold

Melt! Melt!
Before Fate's Forearm
Strikes us a blow
And we are cast astray
Apart
To evaporate
Alone

(This poem was written in response to a college lunch table challenge: write a poem about a glass of soda.)
